COVID-19 Resources for Child Care Centers

We care about our community’s child care providers and the families they serve. That’s why our agency is doing everything we can to make sure providers have the latest information from state licensing and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in response to COVID-19. We know providers are dealing with many challenges during this difficult time and hope this one-stop shop for updates will help ease the burden of the crisis.

Dear Child Care Providers,

With the recent announcement by the World Health Organization declaring the new coronavirus, known as COVID-19, as a pandemic, it is important that we all take proactive steps to protect ourselves. We care about your health as well as the health of your staff, children and families, so we are sharing information recently published by Child Care Aware of America on how to reduce the impact of COVID-19 at your center.

We want to maintain a safe workplace and encourage practices that protect the health of employees, visitors and families. We also want to ensure the continuity of business operations during this pandemic.

During this period, we are committed to providing you with the needed support you expect from us. We have encouraged all service delivery staff in the field to use telephone and video conferencing instead of face-to-face meetings as much as possible during this outbreak to manage our obligations and commitment to you.

Please review the following advisory from Child Care Aware of America:

A pandemic is a global outbreak of a virus that is easily and quickly transmitted from person to person. Most people will not have immunity to the virus and a vaccine may not be available for some time after the virus is identified. It is important for child care providers to be prepared in advance to work to reduce the impact and spread of a pandemic virus on the children in their care.

Before a Pandemic

There are steps you can take to reduce the impact of a pandemic:

  • Ensure pandemic response is covered in your emergency plan
  • Involve community partners to assist with preparedness training and planning
  • Follow and enforce proper sanitation processes and procedures (wash hands frequently, avoid close contact with people who are sick, stay home when you are sick, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing)
  • Talk with parents and staff about procedures for interruption of care
  • Remind parents to have back-up child care options available in the event that your child care program must close
  • Make sure you have a process in place to communicate with children, staff, and parents
  • Review requirements for reporting illness in your community/state
