Collaborative for Children to host Give a Child a Chance Annual Luncheon to benefit Early Childhood Education

Renowned author and pediatrician Dr. Laura Jana to serve as keynote speaker

Houston, Texas (Sep. 4, 2019) – Collaborative for Children, a 32-year-old nonprofit agency, will host its annual Give a Child a Chance Luncheon on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019, to benefit early childhood education in the Greater Houston region. Collaborative for Children dedicates its resources to improving the quality of early childhood education and ensuring all children have access to high-quality early learning.

The Give a Child a Chance Luncheon will take place at the Junior League of Houston from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will feature renowned pediatrician and author Dr. Laura Jana as keynote speaker. Dr. Jana will share her expertise on nurturing skills today that will shape our children’s future, and our future workforce.

“Given the current emphasis on early education at the state and national level, our agency is positioning itself to provide the necessary data to improve school readiness for young children in our community,” said Dr. Melanie Johnson, president and CEO of Collaborative for Children. “We have worked alongside parents, child care providers and child care teachers for more than three decades and understand what is at stake if children do not have the skills to succeed in school and in an ever-changing workforce.”

Collaborative for Children will use data to deploy the appropriate programs, services and tools to child care centers where student outcomes have fallen short of its school readiness bar. The agency is particularly focused on improving student outcomes in vulnerable neighborhoods and increasing the number of students served in those areas.

The Give a Child a Chance Luncheon is Collaborative for Children’s largest fundraising event of the year. It supports the nonprofit agency’s year-round work with parents, educators and local leaders to ensure children in the 13-county Houston region have a chance to achieve their full potential.

Dr. Jana is a pediatrician, educator, author and health communicator who specializes in innovation in parenting, pediatrics, public health, health system transformation and community development. She is nationally recognized for her more than two decades of ongoing efforts to promote healthy lifestyles for children and practical parenting advice to new and expectant parents. Dr. Jana is a consultant to a wide range of academic and government organizations as well as nonprofits and corporations. She has appeared on The Today Show, CNN, Good Morning America, Fox News, and more.

The Give a Child a Chance Luncheon will take place at the Junior League of Houston – 1811 Briar Oaks Lane, Houston, Texas 77027 – on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

General seating and sponsorships are available.
